LAV III Armoured Personnel Carrier

This was a personal piece I did to add to my portfolio. I model a lot of ships and such but all of them are of a fantastical nature so I wanted to try my hand at making something that exists in the world and see how close to the real thing I could make it =) This isn't really finished, but I've been too busy with work and it's just been sitting there for months so thought I'd post it for now.

This took about 1-2 weeks in my spare time. Simple straight modeling in Maya using images of the real LAV III as reference, no scripts or anything.

venator-class Star Destroyer

The venator-class Star Destroyer as seen in the opening of Star Wars Eps III, created for CGSociety's Hardcore Modeling Challenge #9: Star Wars Tribute. The original idea was a battle between the Star Wars ships and the Starcraft ships (since starcraft II just got announced recently too) but the timeframe of the competition didn’t allow for it.

All references were taken from screenshots of the movie plus
the cross-section illustration. Modeled entirely in Maya and rendered with mental ray (occlusion pass) and composited in Photoshop.

This is an old model I made when I was still in school. I've been intending to update it for forever but, like everything else, it's taken a backseat to my work. Hopefully I can revisit this sometime soon, because I had a lot of fun creating this model! =)
